Hermes – LinkedIn Message Importer (“Hermes”) is a browser extension designed to help users organize
their existing LinkedIn conversations locally. This privacy policy explains how the extension handles user data.
Hermes is an independent project and is not affiliated, endorsed, or sponsored by LinkedIn Corporation.
1. Data We Access
Hermes only reads data that is already visible to you on your LinkedIn interface. Depending on how you use the extension,
it may read:
- Names of participants in your conversation lists
- Message content, including snippets
- Timestamps associated with messages
- Conversation metadata (e.g., unread status)
Hermes does NOT collect sensitive personal data such as passwords, account information, payment details, location, or device identifiers.
2. How Data Is Stored
- All data processed by Hermes is stored locally on your device, for example using your browser’s local storage.
- Hermes does not transmit or upload any data to external servers owned by the developer or third parties.
- Data remains available only on your device unless you manually export it yourself.
3. Data Sharing
- Hermes does not sell, share, or transfer any data to third parties.
- The only time your data may leave your device is if you explicitly decide to export or copy it manually (e.g. clipboard copy).
4. Use of Permissions
The extension uses browser permissions only for its intended functionality:
- Host permission for linkedin.com – required to read message content already visible in your browser.
- clipboardWrite – used only to copy a reply to your clipboard when explicitly requested.
- storage – used to store your data locally on your browser, such as selected settings or saved messages.
Hermes does not download, execute, or inject external scripts and does not perform automated actions on behalf of the user.
5. Data Retention and User Control
- You can delete all stored data at any time using your browser’s extension management tools.
- If Hermes is uninstalled, all locally stored data is permanently removed and cannot be recovered.
6. Children's Privacy
Hermes is intended for professional use and is not directed toward children under the age of 16.
The extension does not knowingly collect information from children.
